INTRODUCTION:

“If you are part of profession like Nursing, you have to be dedicating to nurturing the next person who was going to be part of that profession.”- Ina Leech¹

By the end of march 2020, government worldwide had decided to take measures to restrict the movement of their population in order to reduce the spread of Covid-19 pandemic this lockdown led to the temporary closure non-essential business and faced within of people work divided to work from home.²

Lockdown has faced millions of workers to embrace remote working, when possible, to do so and made working from home a must rather than an option. Before the pandemic, the idea of WFH was a fantasy to many people, but such practice was considered not practicable for heavily populated cities like Hong Kong. This was principally because home working requires a quiet and dedicated space to perform work duties, which can be a real challenge for those living in tiny homes.²

STATEMENT:

A explorative study to assess the opinion and challenges faced by Nursing faculty regarding work from home during COVID-19 pandemic at selected Colleges at Mysuru.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To assess the opinion and challenges faced by Nursing faculty on work from home during Covid-19 pandemic.

2. To assess the association between challenges faced by Nursing faculty on work from with selected personal variables during Covid -19 pandemic.

NEED FOR THE STUDY:

The citizens in many countries including India are urged to stay at home and to reduce social contacts to a minimum in the wake of the outbreak of the COVID- 19 pandemic. This pandemic affected each and every section of the economy. The concept of work from home got more popularity at this point. This pandemic mainly affected educational institutions, which lead to online classes, webinars etc. in order to continue academic activities. Now all the sectors started following the same ³

The current global pandemic caused by coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) has resulted in an unprecedented situation with wide ranging health and economic impacts The working environment has been significantly changed with thousands of jobs lost and women impacted at higher rates than men for those employed in sectors able to work remotely, mostly white-collar professional workers, their homes have now become their workplace, school, and place for relaxation. As economies begin to reopen with resumption of some normal activities, questions arise about the potential return to formal office environments and the implications for employees whilst COVID-19 remains active in the community .Many organizations will continue mandating working at home (WAH) for the foreseeable future to avoid making COVID-19 regulation related changes to their office environment⁴

In addition to behavioral and social changes, WFH during the COVID-19 pandemic has also highlighted areas of need for the physical space in home office environments. Of note was that not all workers have access to dedicated workstations in their home, which can result in sharing of their workstations, such as with children who have to attend school remotely, to setting up make shift desks⁵

HYPOTHESIS:

H₁:- ^{There will be significant
association between the challenges faced by nursing faculty}regarding work from home during first wave Covid -19 pandemic with selected personal variables.

MATERIAL AND METHOD:

Research Approach and Design:

The qualitative approach and Research design selected for the study is Descriptive research design.

Variables of Study:

1) Variable was Opinion, Challenges

2) Personal variables

Age, Gender, Education, year of experience, Designation, Type of family, Did you get infected with Covid -19.

SETTING OF THE STUDY:

This study was conducted in selected Nursing College at Mysuru.

POPULATION:

Population was the entire set of individual or objects having same common characteristic. In the presence study population comprised of Nursing faculty teaching in selected Nursing College at Mysuru.

Sample and sampling:

Sample consists of a subset of population selected to participate in a research study. The sample for the present consists 72 Nursing faculty teaching in selected College at Mysuru.

Sampling technique:

Sampling was the process of selecting portion of the population. Purposive sampling technique was used.

Sampling criteria:

Inclusive criteria:

· Who are available during data collection

· Who are willing to participate

Exclusive criteria:

· Those who are not Nursing faculty

RESULTS:

1. Finding related to selected personal variable.

The finding of study showed most of them 41(57%) belong to 33-50 year. Majority of Nursing faculty were female 60(83.3%) of sample were Nursing faculty. 38(52.8%) were belong to BSc and PBBSc. 37(51.3%) were belong to asst lecturer. 37(51.3%) were belong to >7 years of experience. 54(79.1%) were belong to nuclear family. 47(65.3%) were belong to No Covid infection.

2. Finding related to the level of opinion among Nursing faculty regarding work from home during Covid 19 pandemic

This study finding Shows that in first wave the majority was 45(62.5%) of Nursing faculty are had positive opinion where as in the second wave majority was 44(61.11%) and none of them had negative opinion among Nursing faculty regarding work from home during Covid 19 pandemic.

3. Finding related to the level of challenges faced by Nursing faculty regarding work from home during Covid 19 pandemic.

This study Finding Shows that in first wave the majority was 47(65.27%) of Nursing faculty faced high challenge where as in second wave the majority was 32(44.4%) of nursing faculty faced high challenges regarding work from home during Covid-19 pandemic.

LEVEL OF CHALLENGES FACED BY NURSING FACULTY IN SECOND WAVE

Finding related the association of challenges faced by Nursing faculty regarding work from home during first wave of Covid -19 pandemic.

The computed chi-square value was not found to be significant at 0.05 level of significance for personal variables except age and type of family. Hence the researcher partially accepted the null hypothesis.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. Large scale study can be conducted to generalized the finding.

2. Similar study can be conducted by adapting true experimental design.

3. A comparative study can be conducted on opinion and challenges among Nursing faculty and other professionals regarding work from home during Covid-19 pandemic.

CONCLUSION:

The outcome of the study revealed that Nursing faculty have the positive opinion and with those high challenges regarding work from during Covid -19 pandemic during first wave and in second wave also revealed that have positive opinion with those high challenges regarding work from home during Covid 19 pandemic.
